Former Tory Councillor Graham Sheldon joins The Oldham Group

Former Conservative Councillor Graham Sheldon has joined The Oldham Group, strengthening its opposition to the current administration and commitment to inclusivity and local improvement.

Former Conservative councillor Graham Sheldon has defected to The Oldham Group, swelling the ranks of the borough’s main opposition force.

Group leader Kamran Ghafoor confirmed the switch, saying: “I have known Cllr Sheldon for quite a number of years, and I am proud to welcome him into our group. He is a man of vision and integrity, and with his help, we look forward to expanding our group into all areas of Oldham.”

The move leaves The Oldham Group level with the council’s Conservative bloc and positions it as joint opposition to the ruling administration. Ghafoor pledged the enlarged group will “hold them to account at every turn, ensuring that the interests of Oldham’s residents are always put first.”

Highlighting what he called the organisation’s “commitment to inclusivity”, Ghafoor added that The Oldham Group is open to “everyone, regardless of background” and urged residents who “share our passion for the betterment of our town to reach out and join us in making a real difference.”
