Failsworth community fridge receives cash boost to help feed local families
The McCarthy Stone Foundation has donated £500 to the Failsworth Community Fridge to help local families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis during the Christmas period. This donation marks the second year of support from McCarthy Stone, which recognizes the vital role the community fridge plays in providing essential items to those in need.
The McCarthy Stone Foundation delivered a £500 Christmas donation to Failsworth Community Fridge on Wednesday, aiming to help local families struggling with food insecurity during the cost-of-living crisis. The presentation took place at Sydney Grange, McCarthy Stone’s retirement living development on Ashton Road West, marking the second consecutive year the housebuilder has supported the initiative.
The community fridge, operated by staff at Co-op Academy Failsworth, has provided free long-life food, hygiene and sanitary products to more than 20 families weekly since opening in 2021. This support comes as a study reveals 10 million children and adults across the UK are experiencing food insecurity.
Jack Ryan, Buildings and Community Manager at Co-op Academy Failsworth, welcomed the donation: “The Community Fridge is a vital resource in Failsworth, helping to provide food and other essential items to those in need. Christmas can be a tough time for families, especially when combined with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, which is why donations are more important now than ever. We’re incredibly grateful to the McCarthy Stone Foundation for their generous donation which will go a long way in ensuring locals don’t go without food on Christmas.”
Declan Fishwick, Business Development Manager at McCarthy Stone, explained the company’s continued support: “Right now, many families are under increasing financial pressure from inflation and high energy prices, which means many will be forced to choose between putting food on the table and buying presents. This is a choice no one should have to make, which is why for the second year in a row, we’re supporting the Failsworth Community Fridge.”
