EIGHT arrested after Shaw Road shooting incident

Eight males have been arrested following a shooting incident on Shaw Road in Oldham, where an 18-year-old man was seriously injured. The suspects include juveniles and adults, with some released on bail. Police confirm it was a targeted attack with no wider public risk.

Eight males are in custody after an 18-year-old man was shot as he stepped out of a taxi on Shaw Road in Oldham shortly after midday on Thursday.

The teenager suffered serious injuries when an assailant on an electric bike opened fire at 12.15pm, according to Greater Manchester Police. He remains hospitalised in stable condition.

Investigators from GMP’s Oldham district and Major Incident Team have arrested eight males on suspicion of attempted murder. Three juveniles, an 18-year-old and two men in their twenties remain in custody, while a 19-year-old and a man in his forties have been released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley said officers “have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible” and described the shooting as “a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public”. She added: “Firearms have no place on the streets of Oldham and Greater Manchester as a whole, and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously.”
