Eight arrested after firearms incident in Oldham on Thursday 16 January 2025
Eight males have been arrested in connection with a shooting on Shaw Road in Oldham on 16 January 2025. The victim, an 18-year-old man, was seriously injured but is in stable condition. The suspects include three juveniles, an 18-year-old, two men in their 20s (all in custody), and two others released on bail. Authorities believe the attack was targeted, posing no wider public risk.
Eight males are in custody after an 18-year-old man was shot as he stepped out of a taxi on Shaw Road in Oldham shortly after midday on Thursday.
The victim was seriously injured when an unknown gunman on an electric bike opened fire at 12.15pm. He remains in hospital in stable condition.
Greater Manchester Police have arrested eight males on suspicion of attempted murder. Three juveniles, an 18-year-old and two men in their 20s remain in custody. A 19-year-old and a man in his 40s have been released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley said: “We have been working tirelessly around the clock to identify those responsible, and I would like to reassure the community that this is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. We are determined to deliver justice for the victim who sustained very serious injuries and is lucky to be alive. Firearms have no place on the streets of Oldham and Greater Manchester as a whole, and we take incidents like this incredibly seriously.”
