Duo sentenced after machete and firearm were used in an Oldham fight
McCauley Brooker and Stephen Wilson were sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to their involvement in a violent altercation in Oldham, where a machete and firearm were used. Wilson received 12 years and four months for assault and possession of a bladed article, while Brooker was sentenced to seven years and a month for assault and firearms offences. The incident occurred in May 2024 on Busk Road, Chadderton, with both men sustaining serious injuries.
Two men have been jailed for a violent street attack in which they shot and stabbed each other in Chadderton last May.
McCauley Brooker, 23, of Eccles, and Stephen Wilson, 29, from Salford, were sentenced at Manchester Crown Court after pleading guilty to their roles in the incident. Wilson received 12 years and four months for Section 18 Assault and possession of a bladed article, while Brooker was sentenced to seven years and one month for Section 18 Assault and firearms offences.
The violence erupted on the evening of Wednesday 22 May 2024 on Busk Road. Wilson arrived at Royal Oldham Hospital’s A&E department with gunshot wounds to his arms, while Brooker was found at the scene with stab injuries. CCTV footage captured the entire confrontation, showing the two men attacking each other with Wilson wielding a machete and Brooker firing a gun.
Detective Sergeant Smeeton of Greater Manchester Police stated: “Today’s results show that despite the nature of the incident, those involved had access to and chose to inflict serious injury and violence on a street in Oldham. This obviously carried a heightened threat, and it is a miracle no innocent members of the public were caught in the crossfire and that Brooker and Wilson survived the attack with the injuries they sustained.”
The investigation involved officers from the Major Incident Team conducting warrants in Abergele, North Wales, to track down those responsible. Brooker attempted to claim self-defence during the trial, but this was rejected as he was found to be in possession of a viable firearm. Between three to six shots were discharged during the confrontation before both men were arrested and charged.
