Former Salford GP Jailed for Sexually Abusing Patients Over 15-Year Period

A former Salford GP who sexually assaulted female patients during medical examinations has been sentenced to eight years in prison following a two-week trial that concluded in December 2024.

Wayne Sefton Davis, 69, of no fixed abode, was found unanimously guilty of sexually abusing patients spanning a 15-year period while working as a GP in Salford. The charges included one count of sexual assault by penetration and one count of indecent assault. On January 13, Davis was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court and will be placed on the sex offenders register for life.

The investigation began in May 2020 when two women came forward to report abuse by Davis. The first victim told officers she had been sexually assaulted during a medical examination 14 years earlier, after which Davis told her he “needed to teach her how to pleasure her husband.” Following Davis’s arrest and subsequent media coverage, a second victim emerged, reporting that Davis had sexually assaulted her during a routine examination to check if she was “a virgin.”

Detective Sergeant Charlotte Sullivan of GMP’s City of Salford district praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward. “Davis’ actions are truly horrific and shocking, he was in a position of power and used this for his own sexual gratification,” Sullivan said. “He knowingly did not follow the guidance of the GP’s chaperone policy and sexually assaulted lone women in his place of work with no regard for their wellbeing whatsoever.”
