Dixon scored winning try with broken arm

Oldham winger Kieran Dixon scored the winning try against Sheffield despite playing with a broken arm, an injury sustained earlier in the match. He will undergo surgery and be sidelined for 8-10 weeks. Head coach Sean Long praised Dixon's resilience but lamented the injury as a significant setback for the team, which is already short on outside backs. Another winger, Nathan Lowe, also suffered a shoulder injury and will be out for a period.

Kieran Dixon played the final 15 minutes of Oldham’s victory at Sheffield on Sunday with a broken arm before scoring the match-winning try that secured a crucial Betfred Championship win for the Roughyeds.

The 32-year-old winger chased down Josh Drinkwater’s long kick to touch down in visible agony, having sustained the injury earlier in the second half. With no substitutes available, Dixon continued playing through the pain to secure the victory over the Eagles.

“He played the last 15 minutes with a broken arm and got through his work,” head coach Sean Long told Roughyeds TV. “He was going to come off but we had no subs so he battled through and scored the winning try. There wasn’t much celebration because his arm was broken.”

Dixon will undergo surgery next week and faces an 8-10 week layoff, adding to Oldham’s injury crisis in the outside backs. The setback compounds the club’s woes, with fellow winger Nathan Lowe also facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a shoulder tear during the same match.
