Detectives are appealing for information to identify a man who was found dead in Rochdale Canal
Detectives are seeking public assistance to identify an Asian man in his mid to late twenties found dead in Rochdale Canal near Oldham Road on 4 May 2025. The death is not considered suspicious, but the man remains unidentified. He had black hair, a receding hairline, a black beard, and no identifiable tattoos or personal items. Authorities released an image of a ring he was wearing on his left wedding ring finger in hopes of triggering recognition.
Police recovered the body of an unidentified Asian man from Rochdale Canal near Oldham Road shortly after 4 pm on Sunday, 4 May 2025. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene; detectives say the death is not considered suspicious.
The man, believed to be in his mid-to-late twenties, had black hair with a receding hairline and a black beard. He carried no identification, tattoos or distinguishing personal items, leaving investigators with little to trace his family.
In hopes that someone will recognise him, Greater Manchester Police released a photograph of a ring found on his left wedding-ring finger. Detectives are asking anyone who recognises the jewellery, or who has a missing loved one matching the description, to come forward.
Detective Inspector Katie Buntine, of Rochdale district CID, appealed to the public: “Our work remains ongoing to identify him and we hope that the description we have released of him and also the image of his ring may spark someone’s memory, whether you know who he was or know of his last movements. We are all working hard to reunite this man with his family so they can place him to rest, so if you have any information at all, please do get in touch with us. Even if you think it is something insignificant, a small piece of information could help our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 1707, quoting log 2033 04/05/2025, phone 101, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
