Detectives appeal for potential victim to come forward in relation to traffic collisions in Rochdale

Detectives are appealing for a potential victim to come forward in relation to a series of road traffic collisions in Rochdale on 3 May 2025, involving a car and pedestrians. A woman died from her injuries, and Keith Michael Knight has been charged with murder and five counts of attempted murder. CCTV identified another possible victim on Bury Road, described as a white woman with short blonde and brown hair, wearing a light-coloured top, blue jeans, and white trainers. Authorities urge her or any witnesses to come forward.

Rochdale, England - 3 May 2025

A woman who was struck by a car on Whitworth Road on Saturday has died of her injuries, Greater Manchester Police confirmed today.

Officers were called to three separate collisions involving the same vehicle and pedestrians on Bury Road and Whitworth Road. Following the fatal incident, detectives have charged a 49-year-old man with murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Keith Michael Knight, 21/01/1976, of no fixed address, appeared before magistrates on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear for trial in November.

Investigators say CCTV footage suggests a further pedestrian may have been targeted on Bury Road. The footage, time-stamped at 2.24 pm, shows a woman walking along the pavement between Woodlands Avenue and Moorgate Avenue. A car is then seen mounting the kerb, prompting officers to believe the driver attempted to strike her.

Police stress the woman may not have realised the incident was deliberate and are urging her to come forward.

The woman is described as white, with short blonde-to-brown hair, wearing a light-coloured long-sleeved top, blue jeans and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant Ella Purtill, leading the inquiry, said: “We are keen to speak with this witness; any information, however small, could prove vital.”
