Help protect Crompton Moor's wildlife at free Shaw conservation day

Shaw residents can help protect Crompton Moor's wildlife at a free conservation day on May 1, with pond work and biodiversity projects.

A free conservation day is coming to Crompton Moor on Friday, May 1, giving Shaw residents the chance to roll up their sleeves and help protect local wildlife. The event, organised by the Friends of Crompton Moor volunteer group in partnership with the City of Trees initiative, will focus on pond conservation work including digging, planting, and repairing leaky dams.

Volunteers are asked to meet at 10.30am at the Brushes Clough car park, which is located up the lane next to Shore Edge Methodist Chapel on Buckstones Road. The day is open to all, with children over 16 welcome if accompanied by an adult. Participants should wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear, and bring a packed lunch and refreshments.

Mic Norbury, Chair of the Friends of Crompton Moor, said the group welcomes anyone interested in helping, even if they can't make the May Day event. 'If they are interested in volunteering their time to help us with our conservation work on another occasion or simply would like to become a Member of the Friends of Crompton Moor, we would be delighted to hear from them,' he said.

Crompton Moor is known for its scenic beauty and diverse wildlife, attracting visitors from the Shaw area and beyond. The conservation work aims to ensure the space remains safe and enjoyable for everyone while protecting its biodiversity. Anyone interested in volunteering on May 1 or at future events can contact the group by calling Marian Herod on 07792 156295 or by emailing [email protected].
