Neighbourhood officers from Limeside spotted suspicious behaviour behind the wheel of a van on Chamber Road and pulled the vehicle over, leading to the discovery of more than 15,000 packets of fake cigarettes worth in excess of £100,000.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the haul was confiscated after follow-up enquiries prompted by the routine traffic stop. The force has not released details of any arrests but said the investigation remains active.
