Council's free holiday activities to help families with high costs of living
Oldham Council is offering free holiday activities for children and families this summer, including dance, gymnastics, rugby, boxing, swimming, and acting, to help with the high cost of living and provide enriching experiences.
Oldham Council has opened bookings for thousands of free summer activities available to families across the borough starting this week. Children and young people can choose from dance, gymnastics, rugby, boxing, swimming and acting sessions as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to support families during the school holidays.
Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “Making sure children and young people get the best opportunities is one of my highest priorities and so I’m delighted we can once again put on free activities for children and families this summer. I know many are still struggling with high costs of living and that the summer holidays can be an expensive time when you have children. All parents want their kids to enjoy the summer break so I’m glad we can be there to help out by putting on so many activities as we have done in previous years. There are activities right across Oldham - something for every family to enjoy over the summer, with a focus on those who need that bit of extra support.”
Families receiving means-tested free school meals can access the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) by visiting www.oldham.gov.uk/HAF. The Department for Education-funded programme, which launched in Easter 2021, provides enriching activities and healthy meals at no cost to children aged 5-16 who qualify for benefits-related free school meals during Easter, summer and winter breaks.
