Chronicle boss writes to Oldham Council and the Government seeking transparency regarding numerous controversial issues

Oldham Chronicle boss Matt Ramsbottom has written to Oldham Council and the Government, demanding transparency over allegations of child abuse cover-ups, corruption, and financial mismanagement. The email, sent to multiple officials, calls for a select committee investigation and forensic accounting to address community concerns.

Oldham Chronicle chief executive Matt Ramsbottom has demanded urgent transparency from Oldham Council over swirling allegations of child abuse cover-ups, corruption and financial mismanagement within the town’s local government.

Ramsbottom, who heads the Credible Media Group, fired off a comprehensive email Thursday to council leader Shelley Kipling requesting an immediate meeting to address what he termed “an unprecedented level of accusations based on experiences, views, opinion and dialogue.” The correspondence has also been dispatched to Oldham MP Jim McMahon, safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

“We simply can’t ignore what is an unprecedented level of accusations based on experiences, views, opinion and dialogue,” Ramsbottom stated in his email. “We have purposely had physical meetings, as well as lengthy discussions, to help try and work out the level of truth in these accusations and allegations circulating online and in person.”

The Chronicle boss is pushing for forensic accounting of council finances and a cross-party select committee examination of the claims, which include reports of criminality and safeguarding failures involving vulnerable children. Ramsbottom noted that while social media campaigner Raja Miah’s posts are often dismissed as misinformation, “we have found a large percentage of his content and research to be believable - it’s hard to disregard a lot of the information especially when our sources concur - including ex-Oldham Council workers.”

The council has yet to respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment.
