Child rapist sentenced to over 25 imprisonment after grooming and sexually abusing 11 children
Carl Jones, 57, of Little Hulton, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 25.5 years for grooming and sexually abusing 11 children over two decades. The offences include multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and other related crimes. Jones pleaded guilty to all charges and was placed on the sex offender’s registry indefinitely. The case was brought to light after victims came forward, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior involving grooming with gifts and alcohol.
A 57-year-old man who sexually abused children as young as five over a 21-year period will spend at least 25 and a half years behind bars after being sentenced to life imprisonment at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Carl Jones of Little Hulton pleaded guilty on September 9, 2024 to 47 offences including multiple counts of raping children under 13, sexual assault, and causing children to engage in sexual activity. His crimes spanned from 2002 to 2023, affecting 11 victims who suffered abuse that in one case lasted more than a decade.
The investigation began in March 2024 when a teenager and a man separately reported that Jones had raped and abused them during their childhoods. Detectives from Salford’s Child Protection Investigation Unit uncovered a pattern of predatory behaviour where Jones would exploit young boys’ vulnerabilities, supplying them with alcohol and gifts including money, clothes, and bikes while taking them on trips to normalise his abuse.
Jones was charged and remanded into custody on March 16, 2024. As the investigation widened, specialist officers identified additional victims, building a case that ensured Jones will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
DS Katie Halstead of Salford’s Child Protection Investigation Unit said: “Jones is no short of a depraved man who preyed on children, with complete disregard for the trauma his abhorrent actions caused. The victims and survivors in this case had their childhoods tainted in the most awful way, and at a very young age, they experienced what no one should ever have to.”
Jo Palmiero, Senior Crown Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offence Unit, added: “Carl Jones groomed and sexually abused young boys for his own gratification. He plied them with alcohol, money and gifts and exploited the boys in the worst way, with no thought for the lifelong impact his abuse would have on them.”
