New Channel 4 Docuseries Reveals GMP’s Relentless Pursuit of Violent Criminals

Greater Manchester Police opened their doors to cameras for a gripping three-part documentary series that premieres tonight, offering viewers unprecedented access to the force’s most complex investigations. “Manhunt” debuts on Channel 4 at 9pm, following officers from the Serious Crime and Specialist Operations teams as they tackle two murder cases and a firearms intelligence operation.

The first episode examines the 2022 murder of Christopher Hughes in Wigan, with next week’s installment focusing on the killing of Neri Morse in Manchester the same year. The series concludes on January 28th with Operation Bure, an investigation into intelligence suggesting an individual planned to attend an event armed with a gun.

Assistant Chief Constable Rick Jackson emphasized the human cost behind these investigations: “The first two episodes of Manhunt are a stark reminder of the devastation caused by the most violent criminals. For the victims and their families, this isn’t just a TV show, it’s real life - our thoughts remain with them, and their Family Liaison Officers are always here to support them.”

The documentary provides extraordinary insight into the extreme measures officers take to protect communities. “The docuseries also gives an extraordinary insight into some of the things our officers deal with within their working lives and the extreme lengths they go to to keep Greater Manchester’s communities safe by identifying and arresting those who have caused harm or may go on to do so,” Jackson added.
