Chadderton flat issued closure order after reports of 'nightmare' anti-social behaviour

A flat in Chadderton has been issued a closure order by Oldham Council and GMP due to persistent anti-social behaviour, including noise and fire risks from a tampered electricity meter. The order provides respite for neighbours who endured years of distress.

A Chadderton flat has been sealed for three months after its occupant terrorized neighbors for years with late-night disturbances, dangerous visitors, and a hacked electricity meter that created a fire hazard.

Oldham Council and Greater Manchester Police secured the closure order for the Middleton Road apartment on March 20, citing repeated anti-social behavior that forced one resident to abandon his bedroom and sleep in his living room to escape the noise.

“He was a nightmare,” said one neighbor, who provided photos showing rubbish-strewn corridors and a kitchen knife discarded in the hallway. “I sleep in my sitting room because of [them], because there was so much noise. A lot of people used to come by - I think they were dangerous people - and they’d bang on the windows, often at two or 3.30 in the morning.”

First Choice Homes Oldham discovered the electricity meter had been illegally tapped, endangering everyone in the block. Despite multiple warnings, the tenant continued what authorities called a campaign of terror against neighbors who had complained for years.

“I’m sure the action we’ve taken will be welcomed by the community,” said Councillor Peter Dean, Oldham’s cabinet member for Thriving Communities and Culture. “Oldham Council and our partners will not allow residents to have their lives ruined by the irresponsible and criminal behaviour of a small minority.”
