Chadderton family business launches new line of plush cuddly toys

Widdop & Co, a fifth-generation family-run business from Chadderton, has launched a new line of plush cuddly toys called Softies, inspired by the children of the company's team and designed to appeal to all ages. The collection features high-quality, safe fabrics and charming character designs, presented in gift boxes resembling houses. The launch aligns with growing market demand for stuffed toys in the UK.

Chadderton’s Widdop & Co has unveiled Softies, a new line of plush toys named after the children of the company’s own staff, including the CEO’s kids.

The fifth-generation family firm, rooted in Chadderton for 140 years, developed the collection—featuring teddies, turtles, bunnies and brown foxes—under the direction of CEO Stephen Illingworth.

“This range is close to my heart,” Stephen said. “The names of these cuddly companions, like Talia and Hudson, were lovingly chosen thanks to our team’s children and my own family. It’s a celebration of the creativity and innocence that kids bring into our lives.”

Managing Director Dan Illingworth, Stephen’s brother, said the toys extend the company’s heritage of “creating products that capture connection and warmth. These toys are not just adorable—they’re designed to be cherished companions for years to come.”

Each character arrives in a gift box styled like a miniature house with white detailing, targeting a UK soft-toy market Statista forecasts will reach £880 million in 2025 and grow 4.09% annually through 2029. Trade customers can order the collection immediately at www.widdop.co.uk/shop-by-brand/softies.
