A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in Oldham in connection with nine reported knife-point robberies targeting e-bike riders and delivery drivers. The incidents occurred between October 7 and 13, 2024, in the Ripponden Road and Waterhead areas. Police have recovered and returned four cars and one motorbike to victims. Three other youths aged 14-16 have been charged and are on court bail. The arrest is part of a national initiative to tackle knife crime.
Teen Arrested in Connection with Nine Knife-Point Robberies Targeting E-Bike Riders and Delivery Drivers in Oldham
A 15-year-old boy is in custody after police arrested him on suspicion of robbery as part of an investigation into nine reported knife-point robberies targeting e-bike riders and delivery drivers in Oldham. The incidents allegedly occurred between Thursday 7 October and Wednesday 13 October 2024 in the Ripponden Road and Waterhead areas.
Police responded quickly to the reports, launching an immediate investigation and providing support to each victim. One victim sustained minor physical injuries during the robberies. Officers have since recovered four cars and one motorbike, returning them to their rightful owners.
Three additional youths - two boys and a girl aged between 14 and 16 - have been charged in connection with these incidents and are currently on court bail awaiting their next appearance. The arrest comes during a national intensification week focused on tackling knife crime and knife-enabled robbery.
Detective Inspector Mike Ogiliev, leading the investigation, stated: “This concerning set of reports very quickly was identified by us as being a linked series. We have had increased visible patrols since the first incidents to provide reassurance to the local community, and the victims have been supported throughout. Tackling robbery, particularly those that come with violence or threats of violence, is very important to us.”
