Attention - the guards are coming!

The Regimental Band of the Grenadier Guards will perform in Uppermill and Saddleworth School on April 4, including a concert and parade, offering free tickets and community engagement opportunities.

Uppermill braces for military musical spectacle as Grenadier Guards return

The Regimental Band of the Grenadier Guards will march through Uppermill’s streets next month, bringing their world-renowned military musical spectacular back to Saddleworth for a series of performances on Friday, April 4.

Saddleworth School will host the elite ensemble for a special teatime concert at 5:30pm, where the Guards will both perform and work directly with the school’s young musicians. The free concert, lasting approximately one hour, will allow the band time to return to London for their ceremonial duties at Buckingham Palace the following day.

“The ethos of the music department at Saddleworth has always been to forge strong links with outstanding musical organisations and ensembles and to give our talented musicians the very best possible live musical experiences,” said Garrath Beckwith, the school’s head of music. “Our very good friends in the Grenadier Guards will be making a welcome return visit to the school to work with our students and also perform a teatime concert at the school.”

Those unable to secure tickets for the school concert - available through Eventbrite on a first-come, first-served basis - can catch the Guards’ parade down Uppermill High Street at 1pm. The military display will conclude with a free 20-30 minute performance at King George V playing fields, weather permitting.

“Don’t miss an opportunity to see this world class military ensemble perform live in our local community - previous visits have been incredibly well supported by the good folk of Saddleworth,” Beckwith added. “Let’s give the band another rousing Saddleworth welcome.”
