Arrested man drove at speeds of over 100mph during police pursuit

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Oldham after a high-speed police chase involving a stolen car, during which he drove over 100mph, entered a no-entry lane, and drove the wrong way into oncoming traffic. Police seized a machete and drugs, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of a bladed article, and drug possession.

Teen Arrested After 100mph Police Chase Ends in Crash on A627(M)

A 19-year-old man is in custody after a high-speed police pursuit through Oldham ended with a crash and the discovery of drugs and a machete. The chase began shortly before 10:30pm Sunday when officers spotted a car reported stolen from Delph.

The suspect accelerated to over 100mph to evade capture, with GMP’s Roads Policing Unit in hot pursuit. The situation escalated dramatically when the fleeing driver entered a no-entry lane on the A627(M) and sped against oncoming traffic, endangering other motorists. The car eventually crashed into roadside railings, and the driver attempted to flee on foot.

During the subsequent foot chase, officers recovered a machete the suspect allegedly discarded and found drugs inside the crashed vehicle. The teenager was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a bladed article, and possession of drugs.

“This latest arrest is a prime example of the work we are doing on a daily basis to trace stolen cars and remove drugs and weapons from our streets,” said Inspector Jamie Buchanan from GMP’s Roads Policing Unit. “The driver showed a blatant disregard for members of the public, reaching speeds of over 100mph, and even driving the wrong way on a busy roundabout. Thankfully, no members of the public were injured, but without the quick-thinking actions of the officers involved, this could’ve ended very differently.”
