Manchester bus strike to hit 190 routes from Friday as drivers walk out over pay dispute
Around 1,900 bus drivers across Greater Manchester will begin a three-day strike tomorrow, bringing 190 services to a halt in a dispute over pay.
The industrial action, involving Stagecoach and Metroline staff, will run from Friday 10 October through Monday 13 October, with no buses operating in Tameside, Trafford and Stockport during the strike period. Services will also be disrupted in south Manchester and the city centre, while some longer routes in Rochdale face cancellation.
Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed that the majority of buses in Bolton, Bury, Salford and Wigan will continue to run as normal, though passengers have been urged to check service status before travelling.
The strike comes as Manchester prepares for the Half Marathon on Sunday 12 October, with significant road closures already in place across the city. Transport bosses warned spectators and participants may need to rely on alternative public transportation options.
Danny Vaughan, Transport for Greater Manchester’s chief network officer, said: “While we are pleased that planned industrial action by First staff has been called off, we encourage Stagecoach, Metroline and Unite to continue discussions to avert further strike action. We’ll continue to keep passengers informed and support them to make journeys wherever possible.”
The Bee Network website will provide the latest service updates throughout the strike period.
