Aldi colleague Maria celebrates 35 years' service

Maria Holder, a Store Assistant at Aldi in Oldham, celebrates 35 years of service with the supermarket, having joined shortly after Aldi's first UK store opened in 1990. She has worked at multiple locations and raised over £1,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust. Maria reflects on her career, the changes at Aldi, and the strong relationships she's built with colleagues and customers.

Maria Holder marked 35 years with Aldi this month, having walked through the doors of the new Hyde store just months after the German discouter opened its first British branch in 1990.

The Chadderton store assistant, who has also worked in Oldham and Rochdale branches, raised more than £1,000 for Aldi’s Teenage Cancer Trust partnership by organising a staff party in 2022.

“I have absolutely loved my time at Aldi and couldn’t imagine working anywhere else,” Holder said. “It’s been such a pleasure to work alongside brilliant teams over the past 35 years, and I’m so proud to be one of the supermarket’s longest-serving colleagues.”

Holder recalled memorising more than 500 price codes in the early days and singled out frozen lamb grill steaks as the one product she would resurrect from 1990. “My mum always used to buy them - absolutely delicious and great value,” she said. Regional managing director Laura Domone praised Holder as “the cornerstone of our business” and said the company looks forward to “many more years” of her service.
