A marathon effort for a life-changing cause

The Gillery in Mossley is hosting a month-long fundraising campaign in April to raise £10,000 for The Christie Hospital, inspired by Will Langstaff's marathon effort in honor of his wife Sarah's battle with bowel cancer. Events include a charity quiz night, an online auction, and an "All Stars Night" of live music, culminating in Will's participation in the London Marathon.

Will Langstaff will pound 26.2 miles through London on April 27 to thank the hospital that has cared for his wife Sarah during her bowel-cancer treatment, while The Gillery building mounts a month-long campaign to push the fundraiser past its £10,000 target.

The drive begins Wednesday 2 April with a Charity Quiz Night and an online auction of unique donations from local businesses, artists and musicians that runs until “All Stars Night” on 19 April - an evening of live bands and DJ sets. Every drink sold at The Gillery throughout April will add to the pot.

Dermot Gill, owner of The Gillery, said: “We are incredibly proud to be part of this fundraiser, supporting Will in his efforts to raise as much as possible for The Christie. We very much hope we can help bring the community together behind him.”

Langstaff, who has watched Sarah endure chemotherapy and radiotherapy, said: “The training is tough. I’ve been running for a few years but this is the biggest challenge I’ve taken on. I’ve been by Sarah’s side as she battles this disease and undergoes the grueling chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments. She has been so strong throughout and is determined to beat the cancer, but it’s hard seeing someone you love go through so much. I’m inspired by her everyday and want to do something to give back. The Christie has been an incredible support to Sarah and our family - this is just a small way of saying thank you and hopefully helping others like us.”
