Oldham volunteer Debbie Thornton honoured for community service
Debbie Thornton, 52, from Sholver has been honoured as First Choice Homes Oldham's Hidden Hero for April 2026. She serves as chair and bookings secretary at Sholver Community Centre, supports regular litter picks, and participates in FCHO's Customer Engagement Network. The community centre hosts groups including FCHO's The Bread and Butter Thing affordable food initiative. Thornton received a certificate and £50 voucher at the centre earlier this month. Her nomination came from Tanisha Rigby, FCHO customer involvement officer, who praised Thornton's dedication to keeping the centre a welcoming space for community connection.
