Major £6.5m Oldham Way flyover repairs start May 2026
Major £6.5million refurbishment of the Oldham Way flyover begins May 18, 2026, with completion expected by December. The 1979 viaduct at A62 Oldham Way/Manchester Street roundabout has had no maintenance since construction and is now in "poor and deteriorating condition." The council warns that without repairs, a full closure could occur in the future. The project includes waterproofing, expansion joint replacement, concrete repairs, parapet refurbishment and resurfacing. Funding consists of £4million from the Department for Transport's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement and £2million from Oldham Council's local highways maintenance budget. Lane closures will begin first to keep traffic moving while improvements take place.
