Oldham actor William Ash performs Chekhov's Vanya at library

West End theatre comes to Oldham Library for £6 as Emmerdale star William Ash performs Chekhov's Vanya next month.

Oldham theatre fans can see a West End-performed play without leaving town next month when Emmerdale actor William Ash brings his one-man adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya to Oldham Library.

The 49-year-old actor, who plays Caleb Milligan in the ITV soap, will perform Vanya on April 8 and 9 as part of the revived Live@TheLibrary series. Tickets cost just £6 and are already selling fast.

Ash's adaptation, written by Simon Stephens and directed by Tony Mooney, previously ran in London's West End with Fleabag star Andrew Scott before being filmed by National Theatre Live. The play explores love, art, sex and attempted murder through the intimate connection between actor and audience.

The performance comes ahead of shows at The Millgate Arts Centre in Delph on April 3 and 4. Ash, who grew up in Oldham alongside his Emmerdale co-star Jeff Hordley, has built a strong theatre career alongside his TV work in Waterloo Road, Clocking Off and Wanderlust.

Library performances start at 7pm each night. With tickets already marked as 'high demand' on Eventbrite, local theatre lovers are being advised to book early for this rare chance to see professional theatre at an affordable price in the town centre.
