The quiet change, buried in a routine timetable update, means anyone who relied on a quick town-centre visit will now have to factor in a bus or tram ride.

The same update confirms that Manchester Piccadilly's long-standing information booth has already shut; its work has shifted to Shudehill, a ten-minute walk or one free Metroshuttle stop away. Oldham passengers heading for rail-and-tram advice will therefore need to build extra time into city trips, and holidaymakers should note that no counter in Greater Manchester, including Oldham, can now process package refunds.

For those who can reach it, the Spindles desk keeps weekday and Saturday hours of 8.30 am to 4 pm, with the shutters down for lunch between 1.15 pm and 2 pm. Staff there can still sell any Greater Manchester smart season, National Express coach or Yelloways ticket and can issue or replace concessionary passes for children, teenagers and older residents.
