Saddleworth Whit Friday 2026: Brass Band Contests Return to Oldham

Saddleworth's Whit Friday brass band contests return May 29 with 11 villages hosting free events, road closures, and thousands of spectators.

The greatest free show on Earth is back. Saddleworth's Whit Friday brass band contests return on Friday, May 29, 2026, with 11 villages hosting marching bands from across the UK and beyond.

From 4pm until late evening, thousands of spectators will line the streets to watch bands perform while marching, then play their contest pieces. The contests are judged anonymously by hidden adjudicators, with no entry fees for bands or spectators.

This year's line-up includes Delph, Denshaw, Diggle, Dobcross, Friezland, Greenfield, Grotton, Lees and Springhead, Lydgate, Scouthead and Austerlands, and Uppermill. The same villages hosted contests in 2025.

The Whit Walks take place from 10am to 1pm before the band contests begin. Road closures will affect travel between villages, so visitors are advised to check specific parking and access information on the Whit Friday website.
