Radcliffe Primary Care Centre to be transformed into one of the country's first neighbourhood health centres
Radcliffe Primary Care Centre is set for a major transformation after being selected as one of just 27 sites nationwide to become a neighbourhood health centre. The £2.74 million government investment will turn the existing facility into a one-stop shop for health and community services, bringing care closer to home for thousands of local residents.
The centre, which already hosts two GP practices, will be refurbished to include extended opening hours and a much wider range of services all under one roof. This means people will be able to access urgent treatment, pharmacy services, debt advice, housing support, employment guidance and family support without having to travel across town or wait for multiple appointments.
Work is expected to be completed by 2027, with the centre playing a key role in the government's plan to open 250 neighbourhood health centres across the country by 2036. The investment is part of a wider £200 million scheme to upgrade existing NHS buildings in areas with higher levels of deprivation, including Radcliffe.
Local leaders say the project will make a real difference to residents' lives by addressing not just medical needs but the wider factors that affect health and wellbeing. The centre will also build on recent work to bring a resident welfare hub to the building, offering face-to-face help with council tax, housing support and crisis payments.
