Popeyes chicken restaurant opening in Oldham next week

Popeyes opens in Oldham next Friday with big giveaways, transforming the old Pizza Hut at Elk Mill Retail Park.

Popeyes is bringing its Louisiana-style fried chicken to Oldham next Friday, February 27, taking over the former Pizza Hut spot at Elk Mill Retail Park. The building has been completely transformed with the chain's signature blue, orange and white cladding, and a new totem sign now stands tall along Broadway for passing drivers to see.

The fast-food giant is pulling out all the stops for its grand opening, with a giveaway that's already got locals talking. The first four people queuing on foot and the first four cars in the drive-through will win free deluxe chicken sandwiches for an entire year. The first 50 customers get exclusive Popeyes merchandise, while the first 100 receive a free sandwich.

This isn't Popeyes' first rodeo in Greater Manchester-they opened in Bolton earlier this year, where fans started queuing at 2am for the launch. The Oldham store is their sixth opening of 2026, part of a wave of new locations across the region. CEO Tom Crowley says they're bringing 'New Orleans hospitality' to the area.

For chicken lovers, the draw is clear: Popeyes' signature recipe involves 12 hours of marination in Louisiana seasoning, followed by hand-breading and battering. Everything's halal certified, with dine-in and takeaway options available. The menu features their famous chicken sandwich, hot wings, tenders, and signature wraps-giving Oldham another dining choice in the fast-food market.
