Police dispersal order Failsworth Oldham anti-social behaviour

Police have powers to move on troublemakers in Failsworth after weeks of youth-related anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.

Police have slapped a dispersal order on parts of Failsworth after weeks of anti-social behaviour that's been driving residents up the wall. The Section 35 order kicked in at midday Saturday and runs until 7am Sunday, giving officers the power to move on groups of young people causing trouble in the Partington Street area.

The trouble's been brewing for weeks, with Friday's incidents being the last straw. Police say groups of youngsters have been linked to criminal damage at a local business, and residents have been complaining about the disruption. The order covers Lord Lane between Ashton Road West and Brierley Avenue, Brierley Avenue between Lord Lane and Ashton Road East, and Ashton Road East through to Ashton Road West up to Lord Lane.

Inspector Matthew Catlow from GMP's Oldham district made it clear where the police stand: 'Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, and where this is reported to us, we will look to take action.' He said the order gives officers extra powers to protect people and businesses in the area.

The police are asking anyone with information about criminal activity or anti-social behaviour to get in touch via 101, the Live Chat function on the GMP website, or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In emergencies, people should still call 999 as usual.
