Pennine Mencap Hollywood show April 24 Oldham

Hollywood comes to Oldham as disability charity showcases talents of adults with learning disabilities in film-themed performance.

Pennine Mencap is bringing Hollywood to Oldham with a special performance that puts adults with learning disabilities in the spotlight. The charity's 'A Night at the Movies' show will transform Hurst Community Centre into a stage for film-inspired entertainment on April 24.

The event features two of Pennine Mencap's most popular groups-ShowAbility, known for their energetic dance routines, and Stage Right Performing Arts, which brings stories to life through drama. Together they'll perform songs, dance numbers and theatrical sketches drawn from both Hollywood blockbusters and British classics.

Emily Trelore, one of the charity's activity coordinators, says excitement is building with each rehearsal. 'From Mrs Doubtfire to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we've made sure there are parts of this performance that everyone will recognise and enjoy,' she explained.

The show isn't just about entertainment-it's about building confidence and developing performance skills among participants. Tom Morris, fellow activity coordinator, says the whole team is eager to see their hard work come to life on stage. Tickets at £7 will help fund Pennine Mencap's ongoing work supporting adults with learning disabilities across Tameside and surrounding areas.
