Oldham's new 19-acre linear park opens at Broadway Green
A new 19-acre linear park has opened on Foxdenton Lane, giving residents of the Broadway Green area a fresh green space to enjoy. The park, which took a year to build, features footpaths, viewpoints, new trees, shrubs, wildflower meadows, and a play area designed to blend with the natural surroundings.
The park is part of the wider Broadway Green development, which is transforming the area with 500 new homes, including 180 affordable ones, and 600,000 square feet of employment space. The development has already created 2,000 jobs for Oldhamers, with businesses like Aldi opening on Lydia Becker Way.
Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council, said the park will be 'a beautiful place where families can relax, children can play, and local people can enjoy the outdoors right on their doorstep for generations to come.' She praised the teams who worked on the project as part of Oldham's broader regeneration efforts.
The new park joins other major green space projects in the borough, including the 160-acre Northern Roots urban farm and eco-park, and the upcoming Tommyfield Park in the town centre. Broadway Green is being developed by Oldham Council in partnership with Seddon and Grasscroft Property, with the aim of building 500 social homes across Oldham by 2029.
