Oldham Works Summit and Careers Event Drive Skills and Jobs
Oldham's biggest careers event for young people is happening this Thursday alongside a major summit bringing together employers, education leaders and local organisations. The Oldham Works Summit at the Queen Elizabeth Hall will launch the council's new Employment and Skills Plan 2025-2030, setting out how the borough will create opportunities for residents over the next five years.
On the same day, more than 650 pupils in years 9 to 11 will take part in hands-on sessions with leading employers, exploring career pathways in construction, digital technology, creative industries, engineering and health. For the first time, the event will also welcome young people who are not in education, employment or training, those who are home-educated and those with special educational needs and disabilities.
The careers experience covers key growth sectors including the green economy, digital technology, financial services and health and social care. It builds on Oldham's existing CyberFirst programme and expands digital pathways for young people. The final hour from 3pm to 4pm is open to anyone aged 13 to 18, giving all young residents a chance to explore opportunities.
Councillor Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said Oldham is entering a confident new chapter built on ambition and partnership. The council aims to ensure every resident can gain the skills they need to succeed while making sure growth benefits every community across the borough. Employers will help shape the workforce of tomorrow through ongoing collaboration with the council.
