Oldham volunteer Hafsa Batan named First Choice Homes Hidden Hero

Oldham volunteer Hafsa Batan recognised for supporting local children through holiday food and activity programmes.

Hafsa Batan, a volunteer from Oldham, has been named First Choice Homes' February Hidden Hero for her work supporting young people during school holidays. The recognition comes through her involvement with the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, delivered by the Yuvanis Foundation from their base in Chadderton.

Mrs Batan, who has volunteered with the foundation for two years, was nominated by Yuvanis Foundation chief executive Zakir Ahmad. He praised her 'outstanding contribution' as a trusted role model who consistently goes above and beyond in youth and community activities.

The award was presented by FCHO project and partnerships officer Ghazalla Iqbal, along with a £50 shopping voucher. Mrs Batan recently supported a residential trip to Castleshaw for young girls, demonstrating her commitment to providing opportunities for local children.

The HAF programme provides free food and activities for children receiving benefits-related free school meals during school holidays. Mrs Batan described volunteering as giving her more than she could ever hope to give, saying she hopes to continue for as long as possible.

Her recognition highlights the vital role volunteers play in supporting Oldham's young people and families, particularly those who rely on holiday provision for both meals and activities. The award celebrates the often unseen work that makes a real difference in our community.
