Oldham three-car crash on Broadway leaves man dead

Fatal three-car crash on Broadway killed one man, closed major road for hours, and disrupted traffic and Champions League transport plans.

A three-car crash on Broadway in Oldham last night left one man dead and the road closed for hours, causing major disruption to local traffic and public transport. The collision, which involved a Ford, Mercedes, and Toyota Prius, happened at around 5:20pm near Elk Mill Retail Park, just as shoppers were finishing their evening errands.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with police, three fire engines from Chadderton and Oldham, and ambulance crews all attending. The crash was so severe that one witness described it as looking 'like someone had thrown a car showroom on the road,' with vehicles crumpled and damaged on all sides.

All occupants suffered injuries in the crash, and a man in his 50s tragically died at the scene. The road closure lasted several hours, affecting not just local residents but also public transport arrangements for the Manchester City Champions League match against Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium that evening.

Staff at Elk Mill Shopping Park were allowed to leave as their shifts ended, but other customers were blocked from entering the retail park. One woman whose car narrowly missed being involved said she was left 'shell-shocked' and wondering how her vehicle escaped undamaged, while another passenger was seen 'limping' away from one of the crashed cars.
