Three Oldham businesses named in tax defaulters list
Three Oldham businesses have been publicly named and shamed by HMRC for deliberately evading tax, with the total amount owed exceeding £393,000. The government's latest defaulters list reveals that Mushtaq Cash and Carry, Slimconstruction Ltd, and S'N'S Spaces Limited (trading as Saniya's Brow Bar) all failed to pay their full tax liabilities over periods ranging from one to five years.
Mushtaq Cash and Carry, which operated from an industrial unit on Coldhurst Street, owes the largest sum at £304,212, dating back to 2019. The business has been hit with a penalty of £190,132.44 and is currently in liquidation. Slimconstruction Ltd, previously based on Belmont Street, defaulted £44,732 in tax over just four months in 2024 and was dissolved in October last year, receiving a £29,075.80 penalty.
The third business, S'N'S Spaces Limited, which traded as Saniya's Brow Bar in Spindles Shopping Centre, owes £43,938.30 from 2022-2023 and faces a £24,605.44 penalty while being wound up. HMRC has warned that the published details relate to specific dates and addresses where defaults occurred, and that current businesses at these locations may have no connection to the tax-dodging companies.
All three businesses are either dissolved or in liquidation, meaning local residents and other businesses won't see these companies operating in the area anymore. The cases highlight ongoing challenges with tax compliance among some local firms, though HMRC's public naming policy aims to deter similar behaviour by other businesses in the community.
