Oldham Sports Club Taster Festival 2026 - Free Sessions

Free sports taster sessions across Oldham from March 16-22 let residents try new activities and find local clubs.

Oldham's biggest sports festival is back, with over 30 clubs across the borough throwing open their doors for a week of free taster sessions. From March 16th to 22nd, residents of all ages can try everything from football and rugby to hockey, Muay Thai, and boxercise without spending a penny.

The festival aims to tackle inactivity in the borough by making it easier for people to discover local sports opportunities. With sessions spread across venues from Chadderton to Higginshaw, organisers hope to reach residents who might not normally consider joining a club.

Youngsters can kick off the week with football sessions at Vestacare Stadium for ages three to six, while under-8s can try rugby at Higginshaw Community Project. Hockey fans can borrow equipment at Newman Catholic College, and adults can sample Muay Thai and fitness classes throughout the week at Pitt Street.

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: 'This festival is about breaking down barriers to sport. Whether you're a complete beginner or returning to an old hobby, there's something for everyone.

The festival builds on last year's success, when over 1,200 residents participated in taster sessions. Organisers say the initiative has already helped dozens of people find new clubs to join, with many reporting improved physical and mental wellbeing.
