Oldham fans sleep out at Boundary Park for homelessness

Oldham Athletic fans can sleep rough at Boundary Park to raise money for local homelessness charities, with registration now open.

Oldham Athletic fans are being asked to sleep rough at Boundary Park again this year to raise money for local homelessness charities. The community trust is bringing back its 'sleep out' event after last year's successful fundraiser, where participants spent a night outdoors on cardboard to experience a glimpse of street life.

The event will take place at the Latics' home ground, with participants paying a £15 registration fee and aiming to raise at least £50 in sponsorship. Top fundraisers will win prizes on the night, and the trust is hoping to beat last year's total to help more vulnerable people across the borough.

Funds will support several local partners including NorthCare Charity, which provides essential services for those facing homelessness and food poverty. The trust says the money goes to 'long-term support for vulnerable individuals and families' who need help the most.

Adrian Stores, the trust's fundraising manager, is handling sign-ups. Anyone interested can email him at [email protected] to register. The event ties into the trust's new 'A Better Oldham' strategy, which aims to tackle inequalities across the borough through practical action.

Last year's sleep out created what organisers called a 'fantastic atmosphere' with people coming together to reflect on the challenges faced by those without secure housing. This year's event promises to be even bigger, with more participants expected to brave the elements for a night to make a real difference in their community.
