Oldham school first to achieve asthma friendly status
Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Primary School in Chadderton has become the first school in Oldham to achieve asthma-friendly status, marking a significant milestone for children with respiratory conditions in the borough.
The school partnered with the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust to implement comprehensive measures including appointing dedicated asthma champions, developing a full asthma policy, and ensuring all staff complete specialist training.
Emergency asthma kits have been installed throughout the school, and a complete asthma register has been established to track and support affected pupils effectively.
Victoria Abbott, an asthma nurse specialist with the NCA, praised the school's proactive approach, saying the changes mean children with asthma can feel safer and participate more fully in school life.
Headteacher Helen Williamson credited the achievement to a team effort led by Mrs Bamber, emphasizing that the award reflects the school's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every child receives appropriate care.
