Oldham Renew Paint Shop offers affordable pre-loved paint
Oldham's Renew Paint Shop is proving a hit with residents looking to spruce up their homes without breaking the bank. Since opening at Arkwright Street Recycling Centre last November, the shop has redistributed 5,710 litres of pre-loved paint-enough to cover half of Blackpool Tower-showing just how much waste is being saved from landfill.
The shop sells good-quality, water-based paint for a minimum £3 donation per pot, with each container at least half full. It's open daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 6pm, making it convenient for residents to drop by during their recycling trips. Anyone with leftover paint can donate it at the Renew container on site.
Councillor Elaine Taylor, Oldham Council's Deputy Leader, says residents are 'embracing reuse like never before' and that every purchase makes a real difference in local communities. The initiative is a partnership between Recycle for Greater Manchester and waste contractor SUEZ, with proceeds supporting the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity and the Renew Community Fund.
Claire Williams, Renew Manager at SUEZ, reports 'fantastic' feedback from residents who are proving that sustainability works. The paint shop sits next to Oldham's Renew Shop, which sells donated homeware and other items, creating a one-stop shop for affordable, eco-friendly home improvements.
