Oldham planning applications: new homes, padel courts, office conversion

Oldham Council has approved several new planning applications this week, ranging from home extensions to new leisure facilities and housing developments. The proposals include a two-storey rear extension at a property on Rutland Street, new padel courts at Marlborough Street Community Centre, and the conversion of office space to a residential flat on Main Road.

The padel courts project stands out as a significant addition to local sports facilities. Marlborough Street Community Centre will get two double courts and one single court, all with rain canopies to allow year-round play. Padel, a racket sport similar to tennis but played on smaller courts with walls, has been growing in popularity across the UK.

On the housing front, a new dwelling has been approved for land opposite Woohouse Meadow on Ashton Road in Woodhouses. Meanwhile, the first-floor office and store at 100 Main Road will be converted into a residential flat, adding to the town's housing stock while repurposing existing commercial space.

These developments reflect ongoing changes in Oldham's built environment, from expanding leisure options to adapting commercial properties for residential use. The council's validation of these applications means work can now proceed, subject to any conditions attached to the approvals.
