Oldham Parish Church to host special choral performance
Oldham Parish Church is preparing to welcome music lovers for a special choral performance that promises to bring spring to life through song. The Oldham Choral Society will present their 'Swing into Spring' concert on Sunday, April 19 at 4pm, featuring a mix of contemporary and classical works that showcase the choir's versatility.
The centrepiece of the programme is Will Todd's Jazz Missa Brevis, a modern take on the traditional mass setting that blends jazz harmonies with sacred text. The choir has been working closely with this piece, having recently explored it during a dedicated Singing Workshop Day led by musical director Dr David Cane, with Roddy Barrand providing accompaniment.
Alongside the Todd work, audiences can expect to hear John Rutter's Mass of the Children, a beloved contemporary choral piece, and Antonin Dvořák's Te Deum, a grand orchestral work that has stood the test of time. The varied programme offers something for both classical enthusiasts and those looking to experience something new.
Tickets are priced to be accessible to all, with adult tickets at £15, student tickets at £5, and children under 12 admitted for just £1. This pricing structure makes it an affordable family outing and reflects the choir's commitment to making quality music available to the wider Oldham community.
