Oldham man, 82, died from 'multiple fatal injuries' following assault at home

An elderly Oldham man died after a home attack, with a 35-year-old charged with his murder as police investigate.

An 82-year-old man died from 'multiple fatal injuries' after a 'serious assault' at his home in Oldham, an inquest has heard. Kenneth Turner, a retired builder and widower, was attacked at his Stoneleigh Road property on March 1 and died the following day at Salford Royal Hospital.

His daughter Christina identified him at the hospital. A Home Office post-mortem has been completed, but a full examination is still pending as police continue their investigation. The case has shocked the local community, with many residents expressing concern about safety in the area.

On March 4, 35-year-old Dwaine Turner was charged with murder and appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court the next day. Detective Chief Inspector Louise Edwards said the incident appears to be isolated and that specialist officers are supporting Mr Turner's family.

The inquest opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court on March 18, with Assistant Coroner Joanne Logan ordering a full in-person hearing to establish the medical cause of death. A review has been scheduled for March 26, though a date for the full inquest has not yet been set.
