Oldham homes face eviction over drug dealing and violence
Housing officers backed by police have delivered eviction notices to 25 homes across Oldham as part of a year-long crackdown on drug dealing and violent crime. The First Choice Homes Oldham team, working with Greater Manchester Police on Operation Vulcan, has targeted properties in Waterhead, Coldhurst, Sholver and Shaw where officers allege criminal activity including class A drug supply, assault and robbery.
In the latest round of enforcement, notices were served on homes in Spring Street and Derwent Walk in Waterhead over drug dealing and violent offences, while a warning letter went to Capesthorne Drive in Shaw for alleged drug supply. Other properties in Bessemer Way, Trajan House, Walshaw Street and Littlemoor House face similar proceedings. Chief executive Mark Gifford said the housing association is issuing notices at a rate of about two per month since the operation began.
FCHO says it will provide courts with evidence gathered by police to support eviction cases, though Mr Gifford stressed that eviction remains a last resort. 'If you live in an FCHO property and are undertaking criminal activity or anti-social behaviour you run a grave risk of losing your home,' he warned. The association has also issued 31 tenancy warning letters to other residents suspected of involvement in criminality.
The enforcement action follows a series of police raids across Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale that have led to multiple arrests. While FCHO says support is available for those who need it, the message to offenders is stark: continued criminal activity in council properties will result in court proceedings and potential homelessness. Residents in affected areas now face an uncertain wait to see whether judges will grant possession orders.
