Oldham grandmother lands two school jobs after 40 years at home
A 59-year-old grandmother from Oldham has landed two school jobs after spending 40 years as a housewife, proving it's never too late to start a new career.
Amirun Ali, a mother of five with eight grandchildren, joined the Ingeus Restart Scheme last summer after deciding she wanted to work.
With support from her advisor Sharon, she earned qualifications in food hygiene, customer service, literacy, and interpreting.
Ali handed her new CV to a nearby school and secured a trial as a lunch supervisor, which became permanent. She then took on a second role as playground supervisor at another school across the road.
The jobs have transformed her life-she's gained confidence, improved her health by managing pre-diabetes and high cholesterol, and now has her own income and car.
