Oldham Easter health advice: NHS services and pharmacy hours

Plan ahead for Easter healthcare-order prescriptions early and know which service to use to keep emergency care available for those who need it...

With Easter just around the corner, NHS Greater Manchester is urging Oldham residents to plan ahead for their healthcare needs over the long weekend. The advice comes as services across the borough prepare for increased demand during the bank holiday period.

Dr Manisha Kumar, chief clinical officer at NHS Greater Manchester, emphasized the importance of using the right service at the right time. 'Our NHS services are always busier over bank holidays, so knowing where to go for the right help really does make a difference,' she explained.

For those who rely on regular medication, the message is clear: order repeat prescriptions at least one week before Easter to avoid running out. The NHS App offers the quickest way to request prescriptions and choose a pharmacy for collection.

Residents can access a range of services without needing to see their GP. Pharmacy First allows pharmacists to treat common conditions like urinary tract infections, sore throats, and skin infections. Urgent dental care is available through the Greater Manchester Dental Helpline, while the Urgent Eyecare Service provides free NHS treatment for eye problems.

Mental health support remains available throughout the bank holiday weekend. Anyone needing urgent help can call NHS 111 and select Option 2. For life-threatening emergencies, the advice remains unchanged-call 999 or go to your nearest A&E department.
