Oldham Council and College launch 100 Apprentices in 100 Days
Oldham Council and Oldham College have launched a bold new campaign to create 100 apprenticeship opportunities in just 100 days, starting May 21st. The initiative aims to connect local young people with employers across the borough as students prepare to leave education and enter the workforce.
The '100 Apprentices in 100 Days' challenge comes at a crucial time when many students are finishing exams and looking for their first career steps. The campaign supports the national Youth Guarantee, ensuring every young person can access employment, education or training opportunities.
Councillor Mohon Ali, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, emphasized the changing local economy and the need for new skills like AI and digital capabilities. He stressed that the goal is to have 100 apprenticeship opportunities ready for exam results day so young people can progress directly into good careers without leaving Oldham.
Oldham College Principal Simon Jordan highlighted the wealth of talent in the borough and the current government incentives making apprenticeships more attractive to businesses. He described the initiative as more than recruitment-it's about social mobility and community resilience, with the potential to redefine Oldham's future if every local employer creates just one opening.
The campaign will showcase the benefits of hiring apprentices, available financial support for employers, and the new Foundation Apprenticeship route. Both the Council and College will provide support to businesses throughout the process, helping to bridge the gap between ambitious young people and companies looking to develop local talent.
