Oldham Christmas Lights Switch-On 2025: Date, Time, and Event Details
Oldham's Christmas Lights Switch-On is back for 2025, transforming the town centre into a festive wonderland on Saturday 15 November. The free event, running from 5.30pm to 6.30pm outside the Old Town Hall, promises an evening of family entertainment with performances from local dance groups, theatre productions, and special guest appearances.
This year's show features Fierce Dance, the Oldham Coliseum's 'A Christmas Fair', and the cast of Anton Benson's Beauty and the Beast panto from the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Families can also meet Bluey and Bingo characters in the Market Hall from 2pm, with Father Christmas, Ollie & Millie, Rodney the Reindeer, and local adventurer Frank Rothwell making appearances throughout the day.
The evening culminates with the official switch-on of Oldham's Christmas lights and tree, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. One lucky child will win the chance to join Father Christmas on stage to press the button that lights up the town. The competition closes at midnight on Wednesday 12 November, with entries at www.oldham.gov.uk/push_the_button.
Councillor Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said the event brings families together to celebrate everything special about the town. 'It's also the perfect time to explore our town centre, pick up some Christmas gifts, and support the brilliant local traders and market stalls that make Oldham special,' she added, encouraging residents to shop locally and help the community thrive.
