Oldham Athletic support Kane Drummond's rehabilitation

Oldham Athletic are supporting striker Kane Drummond to complete his court-ordered community service after he failed to meet original conditions...

Oldham Athletic striker Kane Drummond is back in the headlines after failing to complete the court-ordered community service from his 2022 assault conviction. The 22-year-old, who joined Latics on loan from Chesterfield, was originally handed a suspended 20-month prison sentence in May 2025 after pleading guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm in Liverpool's Berry Street on December 12, 2022.

The court ordered Drummond to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities. However, he failed to meet these conditions, leading to a court appearance last month where his barrister suggested he was worried about the impact on his football career. Manager Micky Mellon and chief executive Darren Royle have now made it clear the club fully supports Drummond completing his legal obligations.

The club has arranged for Drummond to complete his unpaid work on Wednesdays, when the team doesn't train, ensuring his football commitments don't interfere with his court-ordered rehabilitation. 'We would never ever say 'you've got to come training', it's counter productive,' Royle stated, emphasizing the club's commitment to supporting Drummond's rehabilitation while respecting the law.

Mellon was equally clear about the club's position, saying: 'We wouldn't be allowed to get in the way of the law. Why do people think that we would stand in the way of that, or stop that from happening? He's broken the law and he's been given the punishment.' The manager stressed that Oldham has done nothing except insist Drummond completes his legal requirements.
